When Benalla’s Cathy Nichols saw The Ensign’s Fun, Festive Giveaway competition, offering a $1000 petrol voucher, she thought winning would be a long shot.
“Then I decided you’ve got to be in it to win it,” she said.
“I do a lot of driving and and thought $1000 of petrol would be very handy.
“So I decided to fill out the form.”
Ms Nichols then almost missed out on the opportunity when she couldn’t find the code word needed to enter.
“I almost phoned up to tell you you’d forgotten to put the code word in,” she said.
“Then I found it, and it’s lucky I did.”
Ms Nichols said she read The Ensign every week and was appreciative of the prize.
“It was very exciting to get the call, and right before Christmas too,” she said.
The voucher is redeemable at any Ampol petrol station.
