The annual Mitchell Shire Community Awards and Citizenship Ceremony is nearing.

The event will be held on Australia Day, Sunday, January 26, at the Island Reserve, High St, Broadford.

The 2025 celebrations are being organised by the Rotary Club of Southern Mitchell and will kick off at 7am with a barbecue breakfast provided by the Broadford Lions Club.

The ceremony will involve live music from the Den-Yt band, kids’ activities, community displays, food trucks, a coffee van and a tug-o-war challenge.

Community awards will also be announced, ranging from Citizen of the Year and Young Citizen of the Year to Sports Person of the Year and Arts Person of the Year.

The full list of awards can be found on Mitchell Shire Council’s website.

Mitchell Shire Mayor John Dougall said the ceremony would allow the celebration of locals who had put their focus on bettering the community.

“Our local sporting clubs, service groups, charities and many other organisations rely heavily on the dedication of volunteers,” Mr Dougall said.

The awards will be announced at 11am on the day.
