Neighbourhood House Week began on May 9, celebrating the way these unique groups empower individuals, families, and communities.
This year’s theme — building resilience by bringing people together — exemplifies what exactly a neighbourhood house does for the community.
Cobram Community House manager Christine Osborne said they offer a supportive and friendly environment as a neighbourhood house.
“Neighbourhood houses offer a range of supports and bring community members together to meet, socialise and learn,” she said.
"Community houses provide a safe, supportive and inclusive environment that welcome all people. They provide the opportunity for people to mix, learn from each other, and support each other.“
They offer a range of services including social events, community programs, Centrelink assistance, room hire, digital support, referral services and food assistance.
As part of national celebrations, Cobram Community House added its “Chatty Cafe” initiative to an already extensive repertoire of offerings to the community.
Ms Osborne said it is important to mark Neighbourhood House Week as it celebrates the important contribution they make to the local community.
“The community would be worse off if Cobram Community House did not exist,” she said.
“We are grateful for the support of our volunteers and patrons.”
