Bundalong is in need of a more centralised CFA station with a shed fire on June 26 displaying the need for closer access for local volunteers.
Bundalong resident Stuart who lives across the road from the June 26 fire said that crews were quick to react and assist on the scene but unfortunately due to the location of their station, the Bundalong crew was the last to arrive.
“This particular fire was lucky to come in from the front, but we initially thought it was burning off,” Stuart said.
“Once the fire reached close to neighbouring properties, we realised what was happening and the extent of the situation.
“Yarrawonga fire brigade was first on the scene with Peechelba second then Kilawara before Bundalong was able to get there but it still took a while to put out as it was the shed that was on fire.
“The CFA volunteers do a brilliant job and are always quick to react, but the current Bundalong station is out of the way on Pasley Street.
“A lot can happen in the 15 – 20 minutes it takes for the localised crew to get to the station and then to the incident.”
Several vacant landowners in town have said they would be happy for a new CFA station to be built on their land as more incidents are going to arise as the town grows.
“Bundalong is really building up as it is a stressless place, so with more people deciding to live or buy investment properties here, there is a greater need for a station in town,” Stuart said.
“Several locals say it is an issue that if there is a fire, the volunteers will generally have to drive past first before
“We are not saying about building a fancy, overly big station, just something that is more centralised.
“If there is an opportunity to build a new station, closer to town, then it will be of benefit to the whole Bundalong community.”
