A Shepparton police officer who had been charged over an alleged assault of a man in a wheelchair has had the charges against him withdrawn in court.
The male officer was not present in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court as the matter against him was called on Wednesday, May 1.
He had been charged with two counts of unlawful assault over an alleged incident at a Shepparton house on February 28 last year, but these charges will now not proceed in court.
In court, prosecutor John Goetz told the magistrate he had “received instructions from the director (of public prosecutions) who had called for a discontinuance of the charges”.
He then asked for both charges to be struck out.
Magistrate Simon Zebrowski then struck out the charges in a court appearance that only took a few minutes.
