Charlotte Goode is returning to her home town of Kyabram on June 17 to perform a concert at the town hall.
Charlotte will be joined by three of her close friends, Olive Cullen, Noah Straughan and Matthew Duffy. The quartet all study at Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, Melbourne University.
They will perform a mix of operatic arias, art songs and musical theatre. They will be accompanied by Numarkah pianist Alistair Davey.
Charlotte, who grew up in Kyabram, is keen to promote opportunities for locals to experience opera, classical singing and music.
“I am really looking forward to being home and performing in the Kyabram town hall,” Charlotte said.
“It is a beautiful place and I really wanted to provide an opportunity for people in Kyabram to experience opera and classical music.”
Charlotte completed a Bachelor of Music at the end of last year and is studying an honours degree in Classical Voice at the Conservatorium.
Last year Charlotte performed in the chorus for Melbourne Opera’s The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny at the beautiful Athenaeum theatre on Collins St in Melbourne, alongside many incredible Australian artists.
She also performed in Benjamin Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream with the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music and recently has performed in multiple concerts for Opera Scholars Australia.
Charlotte has also performed in choirs, having performed on a scholarship in the Newman college choir for two years, as well as performing as a part of vocal ensembles at university. She grew up participating in many local musical theatre productions.
Olive is in her final year of Bachelor Music (classical voice), and a member of Opera Scholars Australia with Charlotte and Noah. Alongside her musical studies, she is also completing a Diploma of Languages, majoring in German.
She has a keen interest in feminist musicology, and hopes to complete further study. She grew up singing in choirs, ensembles, chamber groups, acappella ensembles and performing in musical theatre.
She has performed in Mahagonny Songspiel and Seven Little Australians with Opera Carnivale at the Spiegeltent in Wollongong, and she was a featured artist in the Crystal Clear Productions Cabaret and also appeared in Caroline Hodgson/Madame Brussels in Lachlan Boldt’s Madame for University of Melbourne Music Theatre Association’s (UMMTA) 2021 Sitzprobe and played Moth in the University of Melbourne’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Noah completed a Bachelor of Music last year, and is undertaking a Masters of Music (Opera Performance), at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music. In the past year, Noah was a member of Victorian Opera’s Youth Chorus for its production of Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld.
He performed the role of Peter Quince in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream with the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, and also took part in the performance of an abridged version of Bizet’s Carmen with Cordelia’s Potted Operas. Like Charlotte and Olive, Noah performs as part of the scholarship program Opera Scholars Australia.
Matthew is undertaking a Bachelor of Science at Melbourne University, while also completing a Diploma of Music at the Conservatorium. He composes his own music and recently wrote the score for a musical theatre excerpt titled Yourself Myself.
This was selected (among six musical excerpts) for performance at UMMTA’s 2023 Sitzprobe. Matthew conducted the orchestra who played for this performance. He has been musical director for a number of amateur productions, including the Newman College production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.
Matthew is also responsible for the artwork on the flyer used to promote this concert. When asked what his inspiration was for the artwork, he stated, “Charlie (Charlotte) often photographs the things she loves about where she grew up. She showed me a picture and I tried to capture the beauty of the country landscape with music — hence the piano.”
