A baby and a young child were taken to hospital for observation after an explosion at a block of land in an industrial estate in Nagambie on Sunday, September 10.

Police were called to the Industrial Cres property after it was reported some people may have been injured after an outdoor fire exploded about 7.15pm.

Officers were told a woman and two young children, aged three months and three years old, were standing near the fire when it exploded.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said the two children were taken to Royal Children’s Hospital in a stable condition.

Paramedics also assessed a woman at the scene, while a man was not injured.

Mitchell Crime Investigation Unit detectives will investigate the circumstances surrounding the fire and reports that a fridge or white goods item had been placed on the fire before the incident.

It is expected police will also refer the matter to the Environment Protection Authority and local council.

CFA District 22 assistant chief fire officer Pete Dedman said Nagambie CFA firefighters were called to the fire and made the scene safe.

Anyone with information, dashcam footage, or who may have witnessed the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or www.crimestoppers.com.au
