A classic car was impounded after a driver allegedly did a burnout in front of police.

Shepparton Highway Patrol Senior Constable Mathew Farren said police spotted the 1984 Ford LTD allegedly do a burnout in Numurkah Rd about 11pm on Friday, June 16.

Sen Constable Farren alleged the driver accelerated and lost traction while doing a U-turn.

Police had been in the area at the time to target hoon drivers.

The car was impounded for 30 days at a cost of $1075.

The Shepparton man, 32, driving the car will be charged with improper use of a vehicle with a loss of traction.

He will face Shepparton Magistrates’ Court over the charge.
