Yarrawonga Mulwala’s three major clubs have all ensured the continuation of the Yarrawonga and District community accessability car with each contributing a large donation.
Mulwala Water Ski Club, ClubMulwala and Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort all donated $10,000 towards a new community accessability car which is used to transport the elderly or disabled around the region to complete their everyday jobs or for medical appointments.
The community accessability car is an initiative under Community Accessability who is a not-for-profit organisation in its 25th year of operation that promotes social wellbeing for individuals who would otherwise struggle to maintain independence due to aging, disability or financial hardship.
Community Accessability Chairperson and Yarrawonga resident Peter Bennett thanked the major clubs and Yarrawonga Ford, reiterating what a helpful resource the community accessability car is to the community.
“We thank the three major clubs and Yarrawonga Ford greatly for their assistance in purchasing a new community accessability car that will benefit a lot of people within our community,” Mr Bennett said.
“Without their help we would have struggled to buy a new car for the betterment of our community members so a massive thank you.
“The community accessability car is a great service that significantly assists the elderly and disadvantaged in our communities to get around, remain relatively independent and to stay connected to their local community.
“The town very much needs the service. This is a Yarrawonga/ Mulwala and district community car so anyone with a disability within the Yarrawonga and district can use it.”
Yarrawonga Ford assisted in the donation and purchase of the car with General Manager Andrew Pigdon saying the company was honoured to be involved again.
“We are pleased to have been asked to assist with a new vehicle once again and we are happy to continue supporting them,” Mr Pigdon said.
ClubMulwala Marketing and Entertainment Co-Ordinator Trish Storer said that ClubMulwala is thrilled to contribute to such an invaluable asset for our community.
“Helping people during a time when they are most vulnerable by providing transport in this way is something that we believe can make a real difference in the community,” Ms Storer said.
“We applaud the organisation and its volunteers for the important work that they do, and we are pleased to support them in this way.”
Mulwala Water Ski Club CEO Peter Duncan said the ski club are always willing to assist community organisations who service the community.
“Community Accessability do a great job and there is a lot of people who need the help that they provide,” Mr Duncan said.
“It was a no brainer for us to assist as it’s a great initiative and a need in the community which we are always happy to help with.”
Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort CEO Peter Savy concurred with the other clubs comments.
“This fits into our category one donations but being something to do with health and the need for these people to have transport, we are happy to help,” Mr Savy said.
“It’s also a part of giving back to the community which is what the club is about.”
Mr Bennett concluded that Community Accessability is a great organisation to volunteer for so why not put your hand up today.
The community organisation is also looking for a better storage location in Yarrawonga as its current site will experience environmental changes surrounding it so a new two space lockable location would be desirable.
“Community Accessability is always after more volunteers to drive the community accessability car,” Mr Bennett said.
“There are also several other areas of service Community Accessability provide including at home supports, support coordination, short term accommodation, home maintenance, social support and flexible respite to name a few.
