Cobram and Barooga ladies have turned the Cobram Senior Citizens Centre into a workshop worthy of any Santa Clause movie as they knit together festive wonders.
Members of the V.A.L.S. Sewing Group, Cobram Spinners and Weavers, Wednesday's Sit and Sew, Moira Arts Council and Barooga Advancement Group, just to name a few, have put their knitting skills to good use, creating bollard covers, tree hangings, dolls, streamers, knitted chains and many other Christmas-themed creations.
Over 50 ladies have taken part in the mammoth effort.
The decorations will be used to add colour to bollards, trees and parks in what the ladies have eloquently called Christmas Yarn Bombing.
Head of the sewing group, Val Lockman, said the ladies wanted to make a contribution to the Christmas town decorations this year.
“We wanted to take initiative to decorate our town, so we could be proud of our town decorations,” Ms Lockman said.
The group’s work has not only helped spread the Christmas cheer in both Cobram and Barooga but has also brought the community together and benefited the ladies involved, who are able to connect and support each other.
“We’ve loved it, it has helped us build connections and friendships and it’s great to see all the talented knitters create some beautiful pieces,” Ms Lockman said.
Moira Shire Council has expressed gratitude regarding the group’s efforts and has congratulated them on their great work.
The group has been working for several months to ensure everything is ready for when the Christmas season arrives.
