It’s a fact that Cobram Community House is well aware of, therefore, the organisation is hosting an informative morning tea during Law Week.
The event, to be held on Thursday, May 23 will involve local solicitors and legal experts giving presentations with a particular focus on scams, debt and the law.
Attendees will gain practical insights into their legal rights and responsibilities, the potential legal implications of their actions, and how to navigate legal processes effectively.
The session will be followed by morning tea where attendees can chat with the legal personnel in attendance.
Among the legal experts will be those representing the Victorian Ombudsman, Energy and Water Ombudsman of Victoria, Goulburn Valley Community Legal Centre, Victoria Legal Aid and Mill End Legal.
According to CCH chief executive officer Christine Osborne, Neighbourhood Houses Victoria (which CCH is part of) has an association with the Victorian Law Foundation and encouraged neighbourhood houses to get involved with Law Week.
“Our goal is to make the law and legal services more accessible to our community and help them understand the law and their rights,” she said.
“Attendees of our event will gain an understanding of aspects of the law from local solicitors and legal personnel.”
Ms Osborne said the issue of scams was of particular concern for many in the community.
“Scams are prevalent in various forms, from online phishing schemes to fraudulent investment opportunities,” she said.
“Many people, particularly the elderly and those less familiar with technology, can fall victim to these scams.”
Ms Osborne is encouraging anyone interested to come along.
“Come along to this event at Cobram Community House, you will enjoy a delicious morning tea, connect with others in the community and learn about your rights and responsibilities from local solicitors and legal expert,” she said.
“Our information session will equip attendees with knowledge and resources that may protect their interests within the bounds of the law.”
