As the weather grows colder, a hot shower has never been more needed.

The Cobram Lions Club and the Cobram Community House want to remind people about the Cobram Community Shower program, which provides free hot showers to everyone.

Janet Austin, Cobram Lions Club president, says the program is a non-judgemental space where anyone can wander in.

“It is basically for anyone who has a need for a hot shower,” Mrs Austin said.

The program runs every Friday from 10am to noon and can be accessed at Killara House in the Cobram Showgrounds by entering from Bank St.

As showering can put people in a vulnerable position, Cobram Community House chief executive Christine Osborn guarantees people’s privacy by providing a safe and secure venue.

“Trained volunteers facilitate the program and ensure safety and privacy protocols are followed,” Mrs Osborn said.

“The shower program provides a respectful and private experience for all users.”

Toiletries including shampoo, conditioner, soap, deodorant, toothpaste and brushes, plus female products and towels if required, are also provided.

“The community has generously donated toiletries and towels,” Mrs Osborn said.

Staff from Cobram Community House and volunteers from the Lions Club offer their time to help run this program every Friday.

“You see them come in, and they come out and are so appreciative, and you’ve helped someone and made someone’s day,” Mrs Austin said.

The program would love for more members of the public to volunteer and help out once a month.

Please contact Christine from Cobram Community House at 587 222 24 for more information and to get involved.
