The Cobram Lions have spread the Christmas cheer with a Christmas-giving spree.
Donations have been made to various organisations, from schools to community groups.
In November, the Lions Club donated $500 to the young dancers of Koonoomoo Dance Studio League 23.
The donation comes as 48 of the studio’s dancers qualified for the Showcase National Dance Championships, which will be held on the Gold Coast in January 2024.
Cobram Lions president Janet Austin said the club wishes the dancers the best for January.
“We wish the young dancers a successful trip, and hopefully, they will put Cobram on the map at the competition,” she said.
Cobram Community House has also benefited from the Lions’ generous Christmas spirit.
CCH recently called for donations for its Christmas cheer packs, food packages dedicated to Christmas treats.
The packs will be distributed to struggling families in the region to help bring some Christmas cheer.
The Lions have donated $1280 worth of their traditional Christmas cakes to the cause, and Ms Austin said that CCH’s new Christmas initiative was an excellent idea.
“They (the Christmas cheer packs) go to people who are doing it harder,” she said.
“They will brighten people’s Christmas Day and give them something to look forward to.”
The donation has delighted CCH chief executive officer Christine Osborne.
“I am very grateful for the generous support of the Lions Club for donating Christmas cakes for our Christmas cheer packs and helping us spread a little joy at Christmas time,” she said.
Cobram Lions have also donated to various schools in the lead-up to the end-of-year award ceremonies, with Ms Austin saying the group believes it is essential to assist students in their future development.
The Lions have also donated their last monthly Mitre 10 barbecue proceeds to Legacy.
