Cobram Lions are delighted with high-flying student Cadence Pang who only just missed out on representing the club in the Victorian Lions Youth of the Year competition.
Ms Pang has represented the Lions club at various levels, being named the club youth of the year and zone youth of the year, which qualified her to take part in the district youth of the year competition.
Cobram Lions Secretary Janet Austin said she did very well at district level, but only just missed out on qualifying to represent the club at state level.
“She did an absolutely fantastic job representing the club and her school (Cobram Anglican Grammar) at the district competition,” Ms Austin said.
“She’s kicking goals and should be extremely proud of how well she did.”
Prior to the competition students have an interview with the judging panel, the results of which represent 70 per cent of their overall score.
They then attend the competition where they present a five-minute speech and are given two minutes to respond to two impromptu questions.
Ms Pang’s speech at the competition was on the rising use of technology within schools, and how this has both positive and negative implications for students.
CAGS Principal Keith Willett attended the district competition and was glowing in his praise of Ms Pang.
“Although she can consider herself unfortunate not to have made it through to the next stage of competition, the way Cadence represented our school was exemplary and a real credit to her herself and her family,” he said.
