The Cobram Lions Club celebrated its 60th anniversary over the weekend.

It was a day of celebrating six decades of service to the Cobram community.

Representing Benalla Lions Club, Peter Poels handed awards to no fewer than four individual Cobram Lions Club members.

Keith Anderson and Robert McPherson received the Chris August Award for their contribution to the community.

Max and Janet Austin were both recognised for their outstanding contribution to the community through their work with the Cobram Lions Club, each receiving the Melvin Jones Fellowship award.

The fellowship award is the highest award a member of the Lions can receive.

“We’re very honoured to have received it,” Mrs Austin said.

The Austins have been involved with the Lions for the past 33 years.

Ten of those years have been with the Cobram Lions Club.

“We do the job because we enjoy helping people ... you don’t expect that sort of recognition,” Mrs Austin said.
