The Cobram Men’s Shed has created 36 candle holder centrepieces for a special community fundraiser and gala dinner next month.

The Love Your Sister gala dinner will be held at the Cobram Civic Centre on April 27.

The fundraising event is aimed to raise awareness for cancer screening and treatment pathways and raise funds for Australian charity Love Your Sister.

The event will begin at 5.30pm and includes a three-course dinner, live entertainment, raffles, auctions, prizes and health information.

Live entertainment will be provided by local musicians Paul Vitullo and Linda Moreland from Me and the Girl, Nicky Goldsworthy and Andrew Wishart, who competed in The X Factor in 2011.

The group aims to raise $20,000, and the event is supported by all the major schools, alongside the Strathmerton Lions Club, Tungamah Lions Club, Katamatite Lions Club, and Cobram Lions Club.

Individual community members have also offered to volunteer to help organise the night.

Organisers Rachel McKay from BP Cobram and Marissa Daly from NCN Health said they were so grateful for all the community support so far.

The organisers received many donations for raffles and live and silent auctions on the night, together with volunteers assisting with the decorations, catering, setup and pack-up.

Ms McKay said the candle holder centrepieces produced at the Men’s Shed would create a great look for the tables.

“We really want to thank the Cobram Men’s Shed; we had a vision for our tables decorated with candles that were safe and looked great; the men have sorted that for us,” Ms McKay said.

Tickets for the Cobram community fundraiser are sold out, but there is a waiting list in the event of cancellations.
