The Cobram Rotary Club is on the lookout for recruits for 2024.
The social group, hoping to inject new blood into the group, has played a big part in Cobram’s social events for many decades.
This includes hosting the Cobram Community Expo, assisting the Tri-State Games, catering for Anzac days and helping host the Australia Day awards.
Rotarian Ellie Stephens said one of the greatest parts of being a Rotary member is the friendships.
“It is a personally rewarding experience as you get to meet new people and deep friendships are formed and enjoyed,” she said.
“We all come from different walks of life, and this diversity makes us a great team. Working together brings a great sense of fulfilment by giving back to our community here and being part of a much larger altruistic organisation.”
Cobram Rotary welcomes all age groups to join its ranks, and Ms Stephens said that joining the club can enhance a resume due to the skills members get.
“Rotary builds confidence, and for our younger members, they learn from older mentors who have a range of life skills and experiences to share,” she said.
“It is a two-way learning experience really as each generation brings different perspectives, and this is what makes a vibrant club to be involved in.”
Ms Stephens said all fundraising events undertaken by the Rotary group go back to the community, allowing the members to feel they are making a real difference.
In the past, Cobram Rotary has given to the end-of-school year awards, as well as donated generously to the emergency services.
Though time can always seem tight in people’s schedules, Ms Stephens assures that Rotary can work around individuals’ schedules.
“We are very flexible about attendance and work with people’s preferences and skills and time,” she said.
“We have something for everyone, so there are varied opportunities to get involved, enjoy each other’s company, and do something meaningful for the community.”
As for anyone wishing to joining, Ms Stephens said they shouldn’t hesitate.
“Come and have a chat over coffee, or come to a meeting, or join us at an event — it’s what people feel comfortable with, really,” she said.
