Though Cobram escaped the worst of the 2023 Christmas Day storms, the town’s SES was still quite busy over the Christmas and Boxing Day breaks.

SES deputy unit controller Luke Herezo said there were 25 calls to the SES over the two days, with 10 on Christmas Day and 15 on Boxing Day.

Calls mainly related to fallen trees over roads, but about five of the call-outs were related to minor inundation due to guttering and drainage not coping.

Further south, Shepparton and Tatura were left reeling over Christmas with winds of up to 95 km/h.

About 5000 Shepparton homes lost power, and Shepparton Search and Rescue was called out to more than 60 jobs over the two days, mainly related to fallen trees and missing roof tiles.
