Choosing your future career can be hard.

But for Cobram secondary students, that choice might have been made a bit easier thanks to the Careers Day Out Expo.

Hosted in Shepparton, the careers expo brought students from around the region together and gave them a chance to explore what future career pathways they might want to pursue.

Among the various stalls were ones dedicated to trades, careers in the police and defence forces, as well as representatives from various universities and TAFEs.

Cobram Secondary College’s Grace Bramwell was one of the students at the event and said she wanted to pursue a career that involved science or mathematics.

“I'd like to do something in science or mathematics,” she said.

“I would enjoy working in labs and solving real life problems around issues surrounding the environment or animals.”

Grace said she enjoyed the experience of attending the careers expo and spent the time looking at what the various universities had to offer.

A similar positive sentiment was shared by Cobram Anglican Grammar student Lacy Eddy.

The Year 10 student spent her time at the expo looking at the different university pavilions and took part in a bricklaying exercise.

Asked what area interested her after finishing school, Lacy said she was aspiring to a career related to the arts and theatre.

It wasn’t just students who were at the expo either, but a large number of career advisors and co-ordinators who accompanied them.

CSC careers co-ordinator Maria Hart was one such person. She said her students had attended the expo over a number of years.

“The expo is a great opportunity for the students to explore the different range of careers in the local area,” she said.

“It gives them the chance to see what's out there.”
