The University Mixed Ultimate Championships held in Cobram has been declared a great success.

Frisbee-throwing students attended the multi-day event from June 26 to June 29, with Australian National University taking out gold, RMIT City Campus taking silver and Deakin University Burwood getting bronze.

Cobram Barooga Business and Tourism committee member Tony Tranter said a good time was had by all.

“It was a big success and great for the town. I think participants had a great time,” Mr Tranter said.

There were about 200 participants from university and TAFE teams from Australia and New Zealand at the event, and at least 100 additional supporters.

Cobram Barooga Business and Tourism has estimated the regional economic boost from hosting the event was around $200,000 when spending on food, drink and accommodation is factored in.

Asked if the event would be held in Cobram next year, Mr Tranter was enthusiastic about the possibility.

“We always assess things every year. However, the guys from Vic Ultimate were very happy with the event,” he said.
