The Cobram Community House’s Chatty Café will reopen in 2024.

The popular destination will reopen on Thursday, January 25, from 10.30am to 11.30am and operate every Thursday.

CCH chief executive Christine Osborne said the Chatty Café initiative aimed to provide a meeting spot for the public.

“We were inspired to start the Chatty Café post-COVID to help people reconnect,” she said.

“Social isolation and loneliness can have a negative impact on people’s health, and we thought this would be a wonderful way to connect people in our community.”

Ms Osborne said the initiative, staffed by volunteers, had been an incredible success, with many of those who attended the café making new friends.

The café takes a gold coin donation, which gets attendees a drink, including tea, cappuccinos, lattes, hot chocolate and a sweet treat.

A fan favourite has been the homemade scones, jam and cream.

Ms Osborne said anyone wanting to share a drink and have a pleasant social time should come along.

“It (the café) has proven to be very popular, and we encourage anyone looking for a cuppa and a chat to come along,” she said.

In other CCH news, the 2023 Doug’s Christmas Day Lunch has been declared a success, with 60 people attending.

The lunch is a tradition that allows those who would otherwise be alone on Christmas Day to join in the festivities and eat a delicious traditional roast with all the trimmings.

The following 12 months are set to be busy, according to Ms Osborne, who described the 2024 schedule as action-packed.

“We have just started distributing our brochure, which details the wonderful courses and programs on offer,” she said.

“In addition to our nationally accredited courses in Early Childhood Education and Care, we have courses to build literacy and numeracy skills.”
