Thousands of Shepparton residents were without electricity for hours on Tuesday night after a cockatoo caused a power outage.

According to a Powercor spokesperson, the bird came into contact with electrical conductors and caused a network fault.

The outage just after 6.30pm affected 2400 customers.

“Crews were able to restore 720 customers within an hour, while all customers had power restored by 9.50pm,” the spokesperson said.
