High flying Cobram student Cody Lincoln knew he’d achieved well in VCE Physics - but he wasn’t expecting to win an award.

However on July 27 he found himself at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre picking up a Premier’s award for his success in the subject, in front of around 1000 people.

“The award is offered to students who have a study score of 46 or above in a VCE subject,” Cody said.

“I was lucky enough to be chosen. At the end of 2022 the results were published and I got a score of 50.

“In May I was notified I was a recipient of the award and was given an invite to come to the ceremony.

“I wasn’t expecting it and was quite surprised. It was very exciting.”

Cody studied for VCE at Cobram Anglican Grammar School.

He said that although he wanted to celebrate the news when he was informed he’d won, he had been asked to keep it a secret until it was formally announced.

“I just called my family and we quietly celebrated.

“It didn’t stay a secret for very long. This being a small town, it didn’t take a long time for people to find out.”

Cody attended the awards with his parents, and his physics teacher, Mr Gary Smith.

“Before hand I had my first visit to Crown Casino, which was pretty cool,” he said.

“At the ceremony I had to get on stage in front of all of those people. It was nerve-racking but it went well.

“Mum, dad and Mr Smith were very proud and excited.”

Cody said he wanted to thank his parents and Mr Smith.

“Without them it wouldn’t have been possible,” he said.

“Throughout the year Mr Smith would give me that extra push whenever I needed it, and was there to answer any questions and expand my knowledge.

“I ended up learning so much in that subject.”

Cobram Anglican Grammar School Principal, Mr Keith Willett, said the entire school community was immensely proud of Cody.

“We congratulate Cody on this extraordinary feat and acknowledge the effort he has put into his studies,” Mr Willett said.

“And of course, we also acknowledge the work of his Physics teacher Mr Gary Smith who supported and mentored Cody across his year of study in 2022.

“This rare accomplishment is quite remarkable and testament to Cody’s commitment, hard work, and intellectual prowess.”

The annual Premier’s VCE Awards recognises students who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in the Victorian Certificate of Education.

At the award presentation ceremony a total of 331 awards, including 34 Top All-Round VCE High Achiever Awards, recognised the exceptional dedication and hard work of students during the 2022 VCE.
