Cohuna Secondary College has been selected for over $1.9 million in funding for maintenance works that aim to improve Victorian school facilities.
The school received the highest amount of funding out of those chosen for the state government’s planned maintenance program.
Acting Education Minister Gayle Tierney announced the school as one of 59 selected to share in more than $20 million in the latest round of funding last month.
“This program is about ensuring that every Victorian school is kept up-to-date so that every child can access a high quality education in a high quality environment,” Ms Tierney said.
“We are constantly evaluating our schools and ensuring every single classroom is safe, engaging, and will complement the top-class education we are committed to providing.”
The program finances structural repair works and improvements in school infrastructure as identified through rolling facilities evaluations and audits.
School principal Fiona Miller said it was positive the funding, which is managed separately by the Department of Education, had been earmarked for a smaller regional school.
The college was also the recent recipient of $1.2 million in separate funding dedicated to the ECA Centre, Ms Miler said.
The ECA Centre funding will deliver modern-day change rooms and toilets for the complex, used for sports by the school and community.
