The Coles supermarket on Echuca Rd in Mooroopna has permanently closed.
Its doors closed to customers for the last time at 6pm on Sunday, leaving staff to either be redeployed to another Coles store or face redundancy.
The closure includes the Liquorland and Coles Express on the same site.
Supermarket options for Mooroopna residents are now limited to Woolworths and Aldi in McLennan St.
The nearest Coles stores are in Riverside Plaza, Kialla, and Shepparton.
The News asked Coles a series of questions relating to the closure, including how many staff have been impacted by it, why the store is closing and what might be happening with the site, but was issued the same statement the company sent out in August when the store’s closure was confirmed.
“Coles is constantly evaluating our store network to ensure we are delivering the best shopping experience for our customers, and as part of that process Coles supermarket, Liquorland and Coles Express at Mooroopna have permanently closed from Sunday, 2 October 2022,” the statement read.
“We are working closely with our team members during this transition period and have offered redeployment opportunities at other stores in our network.”
Customers the News spoke with on Sunday said they were disappointed with the closure.
Tanvi Patel now lives in Kialla, but grew up near the store and said her family still lived in the area and were frequent shoppers there.
“I grew up around here. I went to high school over here as well,” she said.
“We still come here a lot. It's easy. It's convenient for the people around here. I hope they come back soon.”
Erynn Welsh said closure of the supermarket would make her shopping routine more difficult.
“It's inconvenient (the closure) because it's only five minutes down the road and I don't finish work until 6.30pm most of the time,” she said.
Ms Welsh knows a Coles worker impacted by the closure and she had a simple wish for the company.
“Stay open and all the people who work there still have their jobs,” she said.
