The Cohuna Comedy Gala is returning for a night of laughs with a line-up of four stellar Australian stand-up comedians.

Supported by Gannawarra Shire Council’s flood recovery funding through the Gannawarra Resilience Committee, the event promises to entertain the region’s residents.

The diverse line-up is headlined by top touring comedian Kirsty Webeck, who has appeared at the Oxfam Gala, and on Just for Laughs, The Weekly, and Question Everything.

Matt Stewart, co-host of popular podcasts Do Go On and Who Knew It?, is a Raw Comedy Winner and AACTA-nominated comedian known for his sidesplitting sets.

Dave Warneke from the podcasts Do Go On and Book Cheat is set to bring his award-nominated brand of fun and insightful comedy to the stage.

Rounding out the line-up is rising star Urvi Majumdar, following appearances on Fisk, Metrosexual, The Project and Emu War, and success with her award-winning debut performance at the Oxfam Gala.

While the Cohuna Comedy Gala offers a night of comedy, its focus is on uplifting the community as part of a broader initiative to bring joy to the region.

“It’s getting people together, having a bit of a laugh, and remembering all the support that you’ve got around you,” event co-ordinator Matthew Allan said.

Mr Allan, who is also the Youth Programs co-ordinator at Northern District Community Health, said he hoped the gala’s underlying goal would foster lasting connections.

“Getting the community together and getting them to bond over shared experiences of, say, after a crisis or after the flood,” he said.

“It’s been a while, but we’re still seeing the effects of that with mental health issues or with farming or agricultural issues.”

The event is organised by NDCH, with support this year from Echuca-born comedian and triple j host Luka Muller, who Mr Allan said helped organise contact with comics.

Hosted at the Big Cohuna Stockyard Café on Saturday, October 26, doors open at 6pm with comedy from 7pm.

The gala, recommended for people 15 years and up, is all ages, with limited tickets available at bit.ly/cohunacomedy
