Nedap knows that farm life can be all-consuming.

That’s why in 1977, the company took the lead in pioneering cow collar monitoring technology.

Nedap’s cow collar innovation was designed to not only enhance the performance of the entire dairy herd but also to ease workload and stress, ultimately helping restore a healthier work-life balance for farmers.

Working in collaboration with some of the world’s and Australia’s foremost milking technology and genetics suppliers – including Alta, GEA, Genex, Gippy Dairy Centre, Lely and Waikato Milking Solutions – Nedap has produced a trusted and robust cow monitoring technology with exceptional market-leading battery life.

What truly sets Nedap apart is its collaborative partner approach.

This strategy allows Australian farmers to access the most reliable and innovative cow monitoring technology, enhanced by seamless integration and the unique advantage of continuing to work with the trusted local specialists who have been integral to their farming operations for years.

Nedap Oceania general manager Mike Wilson emphasises this.

“Collaborating with leading disruptors in milking automation, robotics and cattle genetics has allowed us to significantly refine our integrated solutions, propelling excellence and work life balance for dairy farmers throughout Australia and the world,” he said.

The impact of cow collar technology advancements is evident at the Williams-Lowndes farm in Yannathan, Victoria, where innovative cow collar monitoring technology has transformed their approach to dairy farming, enabling more quality time with family.

The family-based dairy farm is run by owner Evan Williams and his wife Sheriden, with their daughter Georgie and her husband Graeme Lowndes.

They manage nearly 300 Friesian-Holstein cows in a pasture-based grazing system.

When they relocated to this site in 2001, they started with an old rotary milking parlour. Today, they’ve upgraded to a robotic GEA system, which introduced them to the GEA CowScout technology.

“Before CowScout, we used tail paint or set out beacons, which was always a big job,” Sheriden said.

Now, with CowScout tags, the cows’ steps, movements, eating behaviour and rumination are tracked.

“The data is available on our phones and PCs, making the farm feel much closer to us and we can easily monitor the health of our cows.”

To be ‘powered by Nedap’ means benefiting from the most reliable and innovative cow monitoring technology, seamlessly integrated with Australian solutions.

“It’s an exciting time for cow collar monitoring technology in Australia,” Mike Wilson said.

“Our renowned partners continue to push the boundaries in their solutions, transforming dairy farming considerably from what it looked like a decade ago.

“While the dairy industry will always present new challenges, one thing is certain – Nedap is committed to supporting Australian farmers.”
