Tongala Shire Hall — Shrine of Remembrance Exhibition

A touring exhibition from the Shrine of Remembrance, Changed Forever: Legacies of Conflict, is now in Tongala.

The exhibition interweaves stories of migrants from war-torn countries and recent veterans of overseas service, reflecting the range and depth of experiences of conflict.

Through paintings, sculpture, music, multimedia, poetry and photographs, these personal stories illustrate the effect of global and civil conflict on our society today.

Location: Tongala Shire Hall, 92-96 Mangan St

Dates: From now until May 20.

Times: 11am to 3pm (except during Week 4 from May 3 to 6 where the exhibition will run from 5pm to 9pm).

Anzac Day with Echuca RSL

The event starts the night before at 6pm on Monday, April 24, with the Guides and other volunteers doing an all-night vigil at the shrine, which encourages others to come along and support this first-of-its-kind event in Echuca.

Next is the Dawn Service at 5.45am on Anzac Day for about 30 minutes, with the Echuca Scouts providing a hearty ‘Gunfire Breakfast’ from approximately 6.15am to 9am.

The Anzac Day March starts at 10.40am from the pedestrian lights on Hare St near the Tattslotto shop and marchers need to be on the roadway in their respective groups or individually by 10.35am sharp.

March to the cenotaph and main service commences at 11am.

Seating will be available for the elderly and veterans first, with the service expected to be a little shorter this year, about 40 minutes.

Two-up will be at the American Hotel from about 1.30pm onwards.

Any groups wishing to lay a wreath are asked to contact RSL secretary Maggie Stewart on 0419 136 126 to put their name on the list by April 23, and individuals may lay wreaths at the completion of the groups.

The Foundry Arts Space

The Foundry Arts Space is hosting a soft sculpture workshop with artist Olivia Lawton, who is currently exhibiting in the gallery.

Free for people between the ages of 12 and 25, the workshop will be held on Saturday, April 22, from 10am to 1pm.

Make your own bird’s nest using hand-weaving and sewing techniques.

The workshop is inspired by the best weavers and hand (or beak) builders of the world: birds.

The Foundry Arts Space is located at 13-17 Murray Esplanade, Echuca.

A Brush with the Past

The artists in this exhibition have recreated masterpieces from the past, by emulating the skills of the original artists.

They have learnt much about their colour palettes, composition, techniques and mediums — knowledge they will bring to their own works in the future.

The exhibition will be open until July 1 at the Alton Gallery, 111 Hare St. Echuca. Gallery hours are Fridays, 10am to 2pm, Saturdays, 10am to 1pm, or by appointment.

Lockington & District Living Heritage Complex’s 25th Vintage Rally

The Lockington & District Living Heritage Complex’s 25th Vintage Rally will be held on Saturday, April 22 and Sunday, April 23 (this weekend).

On show will be vintage engines, tractors and farm machinery, trucks, cars and motorcycles, collectibles and 100 years of ‘Farmall’.

The ‘Show n Shine’ will be held on Saturday from 1pm to 3pm.

A Garden Art Display: people are invited to make and bring garden art made of materials over 25 years old. The creator can be younger.

Food and drinks available, as is eftpos.

Entry $10, primary students free when accompanied by an adult.

Exhibitors free.

Also in town will be a scarecrow competition, town garage sales and an art show.

Echuca-Moama Family History Group is now located at 6 Meninya St in Moama.

This building is part of the old Murray River Council buildings in front of the Sound Shell.

Our research rooms are open for family history research on Monday and Friday from 11am to 3pm.

We have experienced researchers who can provide guidance to beginners, and also members of the public who are experienced in family history.

We can access further information both locally, Australia-wide and internationally.

We have an extensive local database, as well as access to many genealogical and family history databases and websites.

Echuca Moama Gift — Expressions of interest

Expressions of interest are being called for people interested in a potential pro running event in Echuca Moama.

It would be part of the Victorian Athletic League season.

People with experience in managing different aspects of events and/or athletics would be welcomed. Get in at the early stages, while all is up for discussion.

People to help form the first volunteer committee and help establish an incorporated association for running the event would especially be welcomed.

The small screen classic All The Rivers Run will set sail for one last trip as a highlight of the Echuca Historical Society’s Riverlife and Romance exhibition, featuring the wedding gown worn in the series.

From now through to May 31, the Echuca Historical Society’s exhibition will showcase the stories of the pioneers who played such a vital role in the growth of what we now know as the Murray-Darling Basin — and highlight many industries associated with river life.

Echuca Moama and District Probus Club is the founding club of four Probus clubs in the area and is looking to expand its membership.

The car club is holding its annual swap meet on Saturday, April 22.

A total of 200 sites are available, although some have been booked by sellers since the very beginning.

It will be at Rotary Park and there are food vans, coffee, lots of car parts and collectables and entertainment, with a band performing.

Gates open at 5am for sellers and 7am for buyers, and entry is $5.
