Keeping the community spick and span is important to members of St Mary’s Parish in Echuca.

That’s why every Clean Up Australia Day they’re out in force behind the information centre at Echuca’s Aquatic Reserve or near the old Echuca-Moama bridge, picking up litter that has been left behind.

About 30 people took part in last year’s clean-up, all doing their bit to help keep Echuca’s beautiful waterways and bushland free of rubbish.

Christine Sebire, one of the event organisers, said each year a mound of rubbish was trapped in the reserve’s stormwater drain.

With the recent floods, organisers expected even more waste build-up.

“We’re putting the call out to anyone from the community that is able to lend a hand and wants to be involved,” Ms Sebire said.

“It does not matter how long you come for.

“Even if it’s only half an hour, it still makes all the difference.”

The team will be cleaning up near the information centre on Sunday, March 5, between 9am and noon.

Organisers will provide morning tea, as well as gloves and bags for collecting rubbish.
