Story Thief author Kyra Geddes.

Story Thief author to steal the show

Author Kyra Geddes is on her way to Yarrawonga on Friday, November 29 at 10.30am to share her debut novel The Story Thief, inspired by Henry Lawson’s The Drover’s Wife.

Fact and fiction combine in this stirring family saga set against shifting landscapes and pivotal moments in Australian history.

Lillian was born in 1892, the same year Henry Lawson wrote The Drover's Wife and cemented his place in Australia's literary history.

When Lillian reads the short story as a teenager, she is convinced that it is based upon her own family and becomes determined to prove it.

As the years pass, the truth becomes more problematic, and Lillian must decide what is more important: holding onto the past or embracing the future.

Born in Adelaide as the daughter of German immigrants, Kyra Geddes spent her infancy in the South Australian opal fields before moving to Sydney.

Following a successful career in marketing, Kyra returned to university to study English and pursue her life-long dream of writing, publishing two short stories and earning the Vice-Chancellor's Award for Academic Excellence.

The Story Thief is her debut novel, and the culmination of almost a decade of research and writing.

If you would like to meet Kyra Geddes and hear about The Story Thief join us at the Yarrawonga and Border CWA Hall.

To book, please contact Goulburn Valley Libraries on 1300 374 765 or email yarrawonga@gvlibraries.com.au. You can also book online via https://www.gvlibraries.com.au/events. Copies of the book will be available to purchase at the event which Kyra will be more than happy to sign.

Letter to the editor

Park rubbish disgrace

I visited the Mulwala National Park last weekend to find litter strewn widely across the beach there.

To further compound this irresponsible behaviour piles of human faeces and toilet paper were also noted at the base of several trees.

Absolutely disgusting behaviour. One cannot blame tourists solely. Locals frequent these lovely beaches also. This is absolutely appalling. This is Australia, not a third world country. Sadly, it is starting to look like one.
