Federal Member for Nicholls Sam Birrell will host a community barbecue at Rochester Community House on Tuesday, December 3.

The event will be an official handover of the Australian flag flown at Parliament House on the one-year anniversary of the October 2022 flood event.

In May of this year, Mr Birrell gifted the flag to the Rochester community on behalf of the House of Representatives as a reminder of its spirit and resilience.

Rochester Men’s Shed has built a frame for the flag, one of their first projects since moving back into the shed after sustaining flood damage.

The barbecue will celebrate their hard work, with the whole community invited to catch up.

Mr Birrell will also give the Men’s Shed a plaque to acknowledge the significance of the flag and frame.

Rochester Community House at 43 Mackay St will welcome guests from 12.15pm.
