FOOTT Shepparton is among the top Container Deposit Scheme depots in Victoria.

The state government has announced that Victorians have returned more than 100 million containers, pocketing over $10 million in refunds in just two months.

Victorian Environment Minister Steve Dimopoulos marked the milestone achievement at the South Melbourne depot this week.

“It’s remarkable to see so many Victorians get involved in recycling, providing 100 million containers and counting for re-use in new products instead of going to landfill or ending up in the environment and harming our wildlife,” he said.

Shepparton ranks number two on the top 10 regional refund points, with 2.6 million containers returned. Mildura is the top spot in the state, with 4.1 million containers returned, while Melton is the top metro spot with 3.9 million.

The CDS processes an average of around 10 million cans, cartons and bottles across the state weekly, with Victorians returning an average of 129 containers per transaction.

Container returns continue to increase, and Victoria’s network of refund points will continue to grow to meet demand.
