Cooinda’s Stage Two Building Redevelopment is now well under way, with much of the aged infrastructure removed ready for the constructions of new, modern resident accommodation.

Cooinda chief executive officer Alex McKenna said the older hostel style accommodation will be demolished making way for new activity spaces including a craft room, cafe, celebration space, hairdressing salon and library.

“The overall cost of the redevelopment, alongside other necessary improvements, is estimated to be in excess of $8 million, of which Cooinda received $1.5 million from the Federal Government in its final Aged Care Approval Round in 2021,” Mr McKenna said.

“The Cooinda Board remains committed to continuing to upgrade the accommodation and facilities for residents.

Mr McKenna said as a community owned, not for profit, aged care service, the local community is at the very heart of Cooinda.

“Today, we are launching our fundraising initiative to assist in the cost of the improvements,” he said.

“As in previous years, the residents of Cooinda have benefited from the charitable community support and financial donations received.

“As we enter the next chapter in Cooinda’s history we again seek your support on this valuable investment which will help future-proof Cooinda and the home of our dear residents.

“As we move towards the end of the financial year, now is a good time to consider a donation which will be fully tax deductible.”
