Campaspe Shire Council has confirmed that completion of the Breen Ave, Kyabram, dual walking path is imminent.
Following news that work on the long-awaited walking track was back under way, there has been a flourish of orange and yellow uniforms as tradies take over the 1.78km track.
In other words, works are certainly under way and although a few unfortunate patches of bad weather have seen progress temporarily pause, council says completion is not far away
Council director of infrastructure Kate Lemon confirmed that the dual cycling and walking track was scheduled to be finished by the end of September.
“Council is aiming to have Breen Ave works completed as soon as possible, as we know this project is a priority for the Kyabram community,” she said.
“This will depend on weather, and we will continue to update the community via our communication channels.”
Council has been working closely with Kyabram Development Group, which initially consulted with council in the design phases of the project.
Group committee leader Tania Chiswell said the group was pleased that work was coming along well.
“It’s great to see things happening finally after a lot of back and forth between VicTrack, V/Line and the shire,” she said.
“It’s going to link the town together, really.”
Fences have been put in place to separate potential walkers from the railway tracks.
The walking track, spanning from Cooma Rd to Allan St, has been in the works since 2016, but the project has only recently gotten back on its feet while waiting for approvals from V/Line.
State Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh is said to have played a large part in progressing the conversations between council and V/Line.
“We had a meeting and said it wasn’t really going anywhere, and then one of the girls on our committee said, ‘what if we contact state Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh’s office?’” Mrs Chiswell said.
“He played a big part in progressing things.”
