For 62 years, Garry Alexander has been a resident of Greater Shepparton, and now he’s hoping to represent the area.

He’s running for Lower Goulburn Ward and says he has specific issues he wants to see addressed in the area.

“There are issues in the town that needs to be addressed such as the McLennan St Master Plan that’s been going on for at least since 2015,” Mr Alexander said.

He also wants to advocate for more hard rubbish collection.

“The red bin collection is the issue; go back to a weekly pickup because most people have got the small bins,” Mr Alexander said.

“The key issue is the budget, the budget is going out of proportion.

“I’m advocating for Australia Day to stay as it is or have something that the whole multicultural society, including Indigenous people, are involved with.”

“One of the main issues, in Mooroopna, is the speed humps.”

He said another cause for concern was the intersection of Elizabeth and McLennan Sts.

“Why wasn’t the community consulted about the education building there?” he said.

“It is a dangerous corner and needs traffic lights or speed reduction for the whole McLennan St.”

He said he wanted more accessibility to the shops in the centre of Mooroopna.

“There is no access for people in wheelchairs or walking frames to cross to McLennan St into the shops or to the Royal Mail Hotel,” he said.

“People in wheelchairs are playing chicken with cars at night, and it’s too dangerous.”

He said there were multiple reasons he loved the area.

“What kept me here is probably freedom in the area, quietness in the town,” Mr Alexander said.

“It’s always been a friendly town, people so courteous type of thing, and I just love it.”
