Greater Shepparton City Council wants to hear the community’s feedback on recent changes to traffic and parking arrangements surrounding the new Greater Shepparton Secondary College.

Several changes were made before the school opened to ensure the local road network could cater for the increase in staff and students at the site at pick-up and drop-off times.

Recommendations from a traffic plan for GSSC saw line marking, changes to parking and some right-hand turns on to and off Hawdon St banned during busy times.

City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Kim O’Keeffe said feedback from the community would be important in shaping future traffic management around GSSC.

“Prior to the school opening, council made several changes in the area to improve traffic flow and pedestrian access; however, we now want to know whether these changes are working,” Cr O’Keeffe said.

“I encourage the community to provide their feedback to help us further improve the traffic management in the area.”

The council is keen to hear first-hand feedback from students, parents, staff and residents, specifically on traffic management, parking restrictions during pick-up and drop-off times, all-day parking occupancy, pedestrian and cycling routes and any safety concerns.

This community comment will also inform a larger study on traffic in Shepparton’s inner north to understand the impact GSSC is having on the broader road network, including with neighbouring schools and businesses.

Further consultation with the community about any proposed changes as part of the larger Shepparton Inner North traffic plan will take place in mid-2022.
