Murray River Councillor Thomas Weyrich appeared briefly in Moama Local Court on Thursday, September 15, after being charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The 66-year-old Mathoura resident has spent more than 20 years in local government.

He is a former mayor of Murray Shire and current Greater Murray Ward Councillor.

Cr Weyrich’s solicitor, Matthew Lees, said his client intends to plead guilty to the charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He then sought an adjournment for November at Moama Local Court.

Although no summary was read aloud, prosecutor Sergeant Andrew Pike said there is CCTV footage of the offence.

While in the court, a man stood up and said that he wanted the CCTV footage to be shown in court.

The man was asked to sit down and the court was told that the man was the complainant.

The complainant continued to disrupt the court and was subsequently ushered out.

Magistrate Brian Van Zuylen granted the adjournment to Moama Local Court.

Cr Weyrich appeared in court only for a few minutes.
