Greater Shepparton City Council have walked home with a solid win from last week’s Victorian Tourism Awards.

The awards, held on Thursday, November 30, aim to honour business excellence and performance within the industry.

That night, the council took out bronze for the Local Government Award for Tourism category.

The award recognises excellence in tourism strategy and planning, the provision of tourism facilities and services, marketing, and event development and management.

Some of the achievements that led to the council receiving this award include the industry and consumer facing roll-out of the new Shepparton and Goulburn Valley destination brand, production of the new visitor guide, support for the industry following the October 2022 flood event, collaborating with neighbouring councils on the development of a Visitor Economy Partnership for the Goulburn region, and achieving a finalist position with the nomination of Murchison in the Top Tourism Town Awards.

Greater Shepparton City Council Mayor Shane Sali said receiving bronze for this award was a great honour.

To be nominated for these awards, submissions are judged by an expert panel of judges from the Victorian Tourism Industry Council, and nominations must score over 75 per cent to make finalists.

Other Goulburn region finalists included Rambling Wine Tours, a finalist in the Tour and Transport Operator category and Go Adventure Nagambie, who won duel gold in the Adventure Tourism and Tourism, Retail, Hire and Services categories.

The Storekeeper’s House in Tatura, owned by Carrie Donaldson and Luis Cassanova, was also a finalist in the awards and achieved highly commended for the Self Contained Accommodation category.
