A master plan for the redesign and redevelopment of a central Kyabram park has been initiated, which will give community members the chance to have their say about the facilities.
Jaycee Park is a hotspot for families with various equipment suiting all ages, from the play equipment and proximity to the skate park and pool.
Campaspe Shire Council has committed to the redevelopment of facilities in Jaycee Park with the announcement of funding, which will have a two-stage master plan and detailed design process get under way.
The park on Fenaughty St will undergo redevelopment as part of the council’s larger plan to improve the area, which currently features a play space, car park, skate park, pool, and senior citizens building.
In an announcement made on Friday, August 2, council said the project aimed to rejuvenate the area and would create a master plan with detailed designs to achieve that outlook.
The project stemmed from extensive consultation during the development of the Kyabram Place-Based Plan, which the council endorsed in 2023 and will be financed through the council’s Open Space Developer Contribution Fund.
Mayor Rob Amos said the project was another step forward in response to the community’s desire for an improved play space.
“The redevelopment of the Jaycee Park precinct will not only enhance the beauty and functionality of the space, but also reflect our commitment to fostering a vibrant and active community,” Cr Amos said.
“The current play space and skate park do not align with the principles outlined in our Play Spaces Development Policy, and we are committed to redeveloping these areas to provide a unique and engaging play facility that meets the community’s aspirations.”
The master plan also incorporates the consideration of redesigns for the Kyabram Pool, located next to Jaycee Park.
The redevelopment or redesign of the pool aligns with the Aquatic Strategy adopted in March this year, which aims to deliver improved aquatic facilities across the shire within the next 15 to 20 years.
At the March council meeting, councillors voted to withdraw a previous motion made in 2022 that would “close and decommission pools in Colbinabbin, Lockington, Rushworth, Stanhope and Tongala” and spoke about moving towards a strategy that keeps those facilities in place.
An engagement process will be undertaken with the Kyabram community to ensure Jaycee Park’s facilities cater to everyone’s needs.
“We will be inviting all residents to participate and share their insights on the design of these vital community spaces,” Cr Amos said.
“We envisage an exciting and vibrant play space and skate park where local community and visitors will enjoy a revitalised outdoor space within Kyabram.’’
Once the master plan and detailed design are developed, they can support funding for the future construction of Jaycee Park.
