A man and woman from Katunga have been hospitalised following a motor vehicle collision near Muckatah.

Officers from Cobram and Numurkah police units were called to the scene around 6.35am on Thursday, February 20, following reports a vehicle had collided with the rear of a farm trailer towed by a telehandler.

Police said the man and woman were husband and wife, and were travelling towards Tungamah from Muckatah on Parnell Rd.

The driver of the eastbound vehicle, a man in his 80s, was taken by ambulance to GV Health for observation.

The passenger, a woman also in her 80s, was airlifted from the Katamatite Recreation Reserve to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with severe injuries.

The 18-year-old driver of the telehandler was uninjured.

The collision occurred about 200m east of the intersection of Parnell Rd and the Tocumwal-Benalla Hwy.

Cobram Police Unit Senior Sergeant Nathan Ractliffe warned people driving on the roads to be wary of farming equipment.

“People need to take precautions around heavy machinery on the road,” he said.

Investigations are ongoing.

The incident comes days after a serious collision occurred near Strathmerton on Monday.
