Criminal offences in Moira Shire rise by 3.5 per cent

There were a total of 2218 offences recorded in Moira Shire in the year ending March 2023, a 3.5 per cent rise on the same period last year.

That’s according to the Victorian crime statistics agencies latest figures.

Out of the offences recorded, 56 per cent resulted in an arrest or summons to court, 30.3 per cent remained unsolved and 9.5 per cent had an investigation status of ‘other’.

Cobram is on top of the shire’s list for recorded offences with 725, followed by Yarrawonga at 468 and Nurmurkah at 429.

In comparison the number of recorded offences for the same time last year stood at 667 for Cobram, 457 in Yarrawonga and 443 in Nurmurkah.

There were a total of 794 offences committed within a residential property and 309 offences related to breaches of a family violence order.

There was a 14.9 per cent rise of family incidents reported with 585 occurring up to March 2023.

Recorded offences related to criminal damage stands at 187.

There was 509 the previous year.
