Wow! What a great start to the Picola & District Football Netball season by the Mathoura Football Netball Club.
The netballers were in fine form winning six of their seven games to show the opposition what they have to face this season.
The footy sides were not so lucky, with the reserves the only ones to claim the points.
However, Saturday will be a whole new ball game and ‘The Force’ will be with them in the form of former AFL player and Collingwood star, Dane Swan.
Unfortunately Swannie will only be able to play in one grade, but I’m sure his presence in the Timbercutters gear will give them all a real boost, as long as he doesn’t decide to have a crack at the Tug-o-War at the Easter Fair before he arrives.
The football club will hit the ground running on game day with the canteen open from 9am and the bar from noon.
The reserves game will kick off at noon, with the seniors’ match from 2.05pm.

Members of Mathoura’s Catholic community and visitors to town for Easter are advised that the annual Stations of the Cross service will be held at St Bridgid’s Church on the corner of Livingstone and Frome Streets tomorrow.
Father Terrence will conduct the service, starting at 11am.
Everyone is welcome to attend.

A fun day out for all the family is assured with Saturday’s annual Easter Fair in the Soldiers’ Memorial Gardens from 9am until 1pm.
Easter Bunny will be there from 10am, a decorated bike competition will be held and you can pick up a duck for the annual Duck Race.

Don’t forget the fair activities will continue on Sunday with hundreds of little yellow ducks limbering up for the annual race in the Murray River from Picnic Point.
You can grab yourself a duck from footy club members and friends in the gardens, and at Picnic Point on Sunday. For just $5 and you could win yourself some big money.
First duck over the line will win its ‘owner’ $700, second prize is $400, third $200 and lucky last will be worth $100.
The event be preceded by a barbecue from 11am. Then when the ducks take off in the event, you can wander along the bank of the Murray River and cheer them along.

Congratulations to David Hicks and Peter Wilson who have taken out Mathoura Bowling Club’s Men’s Pairs Championship for 2022/2023.
They claimed the crown over Mick Humphreys and Paul Clear.
Members are encouraged to check the notice board in the bowls office whenever they visit the club so they can keep abreast of what is happening.
Members are reminded that presentation night will be on April 29 and interested people should put their names on the list on the bowls office notice board.

It’s fun to go to school, particularly if it is Mathoura Public School where being Spectacular Spellers and Multiplication Masters are combined with the Big Vegie Crunch - a program encouraging 14,857 students across the state to eat well, and attendance figures that are more than a cut above the rest.
And when Easter comes around they get to make themselves some fine millinery to wear in a parade before parents and friends
The Easter festivities will be on today from 2.30pm and visitors will be able to purchase some great food from cake stalls operating on the day.
