Following the Berrigan Shire Council’s uncontested election last month, an election date to fill the sole remaining vacancy has been announced.

On Saturday, September 14, while voters in over 100 shires went to the polls to have their say on who represents them in local government, 14 councils across the state were re-elected without a single vote being cast.

Berrigan Shire Council was among those 14 councils to have insufficient nominations to fill all eight vacancies.

As a result, a by-election was scheduled by the NSW Electoral Commission to fill the remaining position.

Here are a few important dates:

Monday, October 14: nominations open for the remaining position.

Wednesday, October 23: nominations close.

Thursday, October 24: candidates for the position announced.

The by-election has been set for Saturday, November 23.

On Wednesday, December 11, the candidate with the most votes will be announced.

The current Berrigan Shire Council consists of Cr Renee Brooker, Mayor Julia Cornwell McKean, Cr Matthew Hannan, Cr Catherine Healy, Cr Katie Ngatokoa, Deputy Mayor Renee Paine and Cr John Stringer.
