A man’s dead body was found in a car on Ogilvie Ave in Echuca at 4.20am on Thursday morning after the vehicle had been ablaze.
Police are yet to establish the circumstances surrounding the death but it is not believed to be suspicious. A report is being prepared for the coroner.
It’s believed the same man, who is yet to be formally identified, was in custody on Wednesday after he allegedly provided a positive evidentiary breath test.
The investigation will be overseen by the Professional Standards Command, which is standard procedure following a death after recent police contact.
There were major delays during peak hour traffic on Thursday morning in the area surrounding the incident, with emergency services directing motorists in both directions.
