Holstein cows

  • Adlejama Lastin Shauna 3699 GP83 is the new number 1 Holstein BPI cow. She is bred and owned by the Hogg Family of Biggara, Victoria. Shauna has a BPI of 669 and is from a Holstein cow family with global influence. Shauna 3699 excels for health and fertility traits which makes her the top Health Weighted Index Holstein as well with a HWI of 650. She is sired by the Genetics Australia bull LASTIN, the number 2 Daughter Proven BPI sire.
  • Wilara Nippon Jordana has a BPI of 652 and is the number 2 BPI cow. Her sister Wilara Nippon Jordonna has a BPI of 645 and holds down 3rd position. When it comes to Sustainability Index, the sisters swap positions! Jordonna is the top Sustainability Index cow at 1204 while her sister Jordana is number 2 at 1201. Their mother is also ranked 7th for BPI at 622. They are all bred and owned by Trevor Henry and family of Tinamba, Victoria.
  • Carenda Jeronimo Vida, the former number 1 BPI Holstein cow, is now ranked 4th at 639 BPI. Vida is classified VG87 as a 3-year old and is a polled daughter of the high ranking bull ABS Jeronimo (29HO18698). Her son Carenda AUSTRALIND is the number 2 BPI Holstein bull.

Holstein genomic heifers

  • With a BPI of 569, Emu Banks Rizboy Tiffany 15111 is the top genomic heifer for BPI at 569 BPI. She is from the number one ranked ABV Holstein herd of the Dickson Family, Terang, Victoria.
  • Illawambra Milan Loretto, owned by Trevor and Leah Parrish, Kangaroo Valley, NSW is the number 1 HWI heifer at 666 HWI, while Wes and Rita Hurrell of Yankalilla, South Australia are the breeders of Rockwella Farm Varley Judith, the top Sustainability Index heifer with a SI of 1056.

Jersey cows

  • The number 1 Jersey BPI cow is again Araluen Park Jiggy Sandra EX-90. Sandra was bred by Trevor Saunders and Anthea Day of Shady Creek, Victoria. She has a BPI of 541. Jiggy Sandra is also the Jersey breed’s top Sustainability Index cow at 1163 SI.
  • In second spot with a BPI of 513 is Beulah Gislev H Bouy 83 at 2-years old. She is bred and owned by Daryl and Lani Hoey, Wonthaggi, Victoria and is a daughter of the Viking bull VIKJGISLEV. Bouy is also the top Health cow with a HWI of 465.

Jersey genomic heifers

  • The Hoeys are also the breeders of the top BPI and HWI Jersey heifer. Beulah Star D Fairy 2 has a BPI of 432 and a HWI of 441.
  • Craigielea Vicky 6682 is the number 2 genomic BPI Jersey heifer at 432 BPI and the number 1 Sustainability Index heifer with a SI of 887. Sired by the Agri-Gene bull ROULETTE, she is a daughter of the former number 1 BPI cow Craigielea Vicky 6151. She was bred by Bill Cochrane and family of Bamawm, Vic and is now owned by Pat and Brendan Nicholson of Girgarre.

Aussie Reds

  • Beaulands Ninjago Tina maintained her edge over Blackwood Park 1416 this ABV run with a BPI of 400. Tina was bred by Ron and Sam Graham of Numbaa, NSW.
  • The tables were turned when it comes to Health Weighted Index and Sustainability Index with the Clarke family’s Blackwood Park 1416 leading the pack at 309 HWI and 926 SI.
  • “7696” is the top BPI heifer with a BPI of 338. She is owned by Davies Farm, Cooriemungle, Victoria.

TOP HERDS

Holstein

  • The “Emu Banks” herd of Bryan and Jo Dickson has retained top spot with an average BPI of 379. They are also the highest herd for the Sustainability Index at 662 and number 1 for the Health Weighted Index (HWI) at 361.
  • In second position on BPI is George Wagner’s “Rengaw” herd with a BPI of 350.
  • Rohan and Graeme Sprunt’s “Kaarmona” herd, Karimba, Victoria holds down third position with a BPI of 343.

Jersey

  • Con and Michelle Glennen’s “White Star” Jersey herd from Noorat, Victoria, is the top BPI and SI herd in the Jersey breed with a BPI of 270 and a SI of 577.
  • Emulating their Holstein efforts is the Dickson family’s Emu Banks Jerseys coming in as the number 2 HWI herd at 206.

Other breeds

  • Aussie Reds: Ron and Sam Graham of Numbaa, NSW, again have the number one herd for all three key indices.
  • Illawarras: There is a new herd at the top of the Illawarra herd list. The Hamiltons Run herd of Graeme and Michelle Hamilton, Mt Gambier, SA is the new number one Illawarra herd for all thee key indices.
  • Ayrshires: Trevor Saunders and Anthea Day of Shady Creek, Victoria have the top BPI and Sustainability Index Ayrshire herd.
  • Brown Swiss: P & S Balfour of Kanoona, NSW have the top Brown Swiss herd for BPI, HWI and SI while the Cleggett family of Glencoe, South Australia are the leading Guernsey herd for BPI and SI.

Holstein Australian-proven sires

  • At 516 BPI Carenda PILBARA is Australia’s top daughter-proven Holstein sire. PILBARA comes from the acclaimed Carenda herd of the Kitchen family in WA. He is a high Protein transmitter with 294 daughters in his production ABV. He is also the leading proven Sustainability Index bull with an SI of 1079.
  • Redmaw Fedora LASTIN is in second position with a BPI of 503 based on 220 milking daughters in 46 herds. He was bred by Jared and Courtney Ireland of Lockington, Victoria.
  • Carenda Pemberton occupies third spot with a BPI of 476. PEMBERTON has over 600 daughters in his production proof.

All three bulls are owned and marketed by Genetics Australia.

Holstein genomic bulls

Four of the top five bulls on the Holstein genomic list are Australian-bred. Three of the top 10 genomic Holsteins carry the polled gene.

  • 0200HO11797 – Progenesis Radiostar is the new number 1 BPI genomic sire. A product of the Semex breeding program, Radiostar leads the way at 631 BPI. He is also the leading Sustainability Index sire at 1174 SI.
  • Wilara JOBOLT is the new number 2 BPI genomic bull at 599 BPI. He was bred by Trevor Henry and family of Tinamba, Victoria. He is sired by BOLTI and like his sire, JOBOLT carries the polled gene. In fact, three of the top five Holstein genomic sires on BPI were bred by the Henry family – a remarkable achievement.
  • Carenda AUSTRALIND bred by the Kitchen Family, Boyanup, WA, is in second spot. At 594 BPI this Westcoast Rocknroll son is from the breed’s former number 1 BPI cow, Carenda Jeronimo Vida VG87.
  • With a BPI of 586, JORDLIV is fourth on the BPI rankings and is also the highest Sustainability Index genomic sire.
  • In fifth position is AUTOBOT a partly proven sire (18 daughters in three herds) and the third of the Wilara bulls on the genomic list.
  • The highest bull in the Holstein breed for fertility is SLHONDA with a Daughter Fertility ABV of 121. Interestingly, this bull carries the polled gene and also the slick gene, which improves Heat Tolerance.

Jersey Australian-proven sires

  • The reign of the White Star bull DOUGGAN at the top of the Jersey proven list has finally come to an end. He has been usurped by Brookbora BORUNG with a BPI of 427 based on 132 daughters in 29 herds. DOUGGAN holds down second spot with a BPI of 376 and over 1000 milking daughters in 84 herds. Both bulls are available from Genetics Australia.
  • The polled sire, PIXSTARP retains 3rd spot at 311 BPI. He is available from Agri-Gene. PIXSTARP has sons and grandsons in the top genomic Jersey list.

Jersey genomic bulls

  • ROULETTE has returned to the top of the genomic BPI list backed now by his first daughters (24 in 5 herds). This Casino son has a BPI of 476 and a Sustainability Index of 1073 making him the number 1 bull as well. Watch for more daughters to enter his breeding values in April 2025. ROULETTE is available from Agri-Gene.
  • White Star TWOUP at 455 BPI and sits in second position. Another product of the Glennen family breeding program, this ROULETTE son is available through Agri-Gene.
  • 7JE01726 – Starlord is the leading HWI Jersey. Available from WWS, this Craze son has been used widely by AI Companies to breed sons due to his solid health and fertility ratings.
  • Another Craze son, Miami Craze ELECTRIC, bred by the Flemming Family of Cobrico, Victoria is the highest Daughter Fertility Jersey with an ABV of 111. ELECTRIC is available from Agri-Gene.

Aussie Reds

  • VIKRHOSEA is the new number 1 BPI Aussie Red bull. At 365 BPI, Hosea has 1790 daughters milking in the Scandinavian countries. Hosea is marketed by Viking Australia.
  • In second position is 252NR12344 – Haaland, a polled sire with a BPI of 348. This Norwegian Red sire is also the breed’s leading SI bull and is available from ABS Australia.
  • The top HWI Red sire is 252NR12073 – Alme with a HWI of 294. He has 1820 Scandinavian daughters.

Other breeds

  • Ayrshire: The leading Ayrshire sire is NZGSUPASONIC - Iwa Super Sonic with a BPI of 265. He is available from LIC – Livestock Improvement Corporation.
  • Illawarras: Genomic sire Cluain Lyons – CNLYONS is a clear Illawarra leader at 318 BPI. This superior production transmitter was bred by Graeme & Michelle Hamilton, Mt. Gambier, South Australia which is also the current number one Illawarra herd. CNLYONS can be purchased from Genetics Australia.
  • Guernsey: The top Guernsey bull is BLMAFIA, Brookleigh Rep Mafia at 206 BPI. In second spot is LEYTONET, Brookleigh Novak Leyton at 172 BPI. Both were bred by the Cleggett family of Glencoe, South Australia.
  • Brown Swiss: 93SBJ03 Hercules at 249 BPI. GGIVIP is in second with a BPI of 238. Both bulls are available from GGI - Australia.
