Don’t spend Christmas alone

Over 200 people enjoyed Christmas lunch together last year.

Nobody needs to spend the holidays alone this Christmas.

The annual Christmas for Those Alone lunch will be happening again on Christmas Day.

The lunch is a way for members of the community who would otherwise spend the holiday alone a place to come, connect and enjoy a festive lunch spread.

After last year’s event was on the brink of cancellation, volunteer coordinator Sue Spence was happy to announce that this year’s event will go ahead.

“The Christmas lunch is put on by a group of volunteers and ran entirely on donations and sponsorships,” she said.

“We try to include people in the community who are on their own and don’t have any family or friends in town to come along and have a nice lunch.”

Ms Spence said they’re currently taking names for attendees and volunteers, with everyone welcome to come and take part.

“We’re always looking for more volunteers,” she said.

“We’ve got a few so far, but they’re only just starting to come in.”

This year, they’ll once again have Albury-based business Chef 4 Hire back to cater the event, who came on last year after the outpouring of support from the community after the event was nearly cancelled.

The Christmas for Those Alone lunch will be happening from 11am to 2pm on Christmas Day, December 25 at the McIntosh Centre at the Shepparton Showgrounds.
