Scarlett and Marley Radford were a picture of concentration as they used hole punches to produce tiny coloured dots to fill an intricate pattern at Tongala library last week.
The sisters, both Tongala Primary School students, were taking part in one of several Campaspe Shire winter school holiday events — which were spread through Echuca, Kyabram, Rochester, Rushwoth and Tongala libraries.
Linda Neilson is in charge of Campaspe Shire’s library services for children and throughout the school holidays has been a constant at the community book borrowing facilities.
She said the dot pictures program which the sisters were involved in was just one of several different programs, including dragon magnets (tomorrow, Thursday, July 7 at Tongala), rhymetime, dream catcher making, mug hug making, movie watching and science activities.
The final events at Kyabram library are today (Wednesday, July 6 at 4pm) for dream catcher making and tomorrow (July 7) for dragon mobile making.
Ms Neilson said the library based activities were a regular part of school holiday entertainment in Campaspe Shire, with the dot making based around the Hindu inspired Mandala patterns.
Mandalas are geometric configurations of symbols, which are used for focusing the attention of practitioners and assisting with meditation and trance induction.
When the Free Press camera caught up with the Tongala sisters they were certainly in a trance like status as they carefully peeled back the self adhesive component of the mandala pattern to expertly place their dots on the page.
