Drainage issues affect access to Benalla homes

Benalla’s Ian Gibson approached the Ensign last week in an attempt to assist those in his local community who have seen access to their homes affected by flooding.

While the October floods affected much of Benalla, and Victoria, drainage issues on Stapleton Crt are not limited to times when the Broken River has burst its banks.

Mr Gibson does not live in Stapleton Crt, but does live nearby and is concerned about some residents, particularly older ones, who cannot get out of their own homes, let alone out of the court when it floods.

Benalla Rural City Council has been approached for comment.

A Benalla Rural City Council spokesperson said it is aware of the draining issues in Stapleton Court.

“We are working on an engineering solution to the problem,” the spokesperson said.
