Driver allegedly flees following Hume Fwy crash near Benalla

Police have arrested a man following an erratic driving incident near Benalla on Thursday, May 18.

Emergency services were called to a three-vehicle collision, involving a maroon Holden Commodore, Hyundai wagon and a livestock transport truck, on the Hume Fwy just before 8.30pm.

Police, with assistance from the Air Wing, located and arrested the male driver of the Holden about 150m from the collision after he allegedly fled the scene.

The 32-year-old was taken to hospital for treatment and is currently under police guard.

Officers are investigating a number of calls to 000 about a vehicle travelling at excessive speeds and on the wrong side of the freeway prior to the collision.
