A driver was allegedly four times the legal alcohol limit when he was pulled over by police on Saturday after a police chase along two major roads.
Shepparton Crime Investigation Unit First Constable Marko Mitic said police received calls from the public that a vehicle had been seen driving erratically and swerving between lanes on the Hume Fwy in the Wandong area around 1pm on June 17.
The man was also seen by members of the public allegedly drinking alcohol while he was driving, First Constable Mitic said.
Police made two attempts to intercept the man’s gold-coloured Commodore sedan, at both Wandong and Wahring on the Goulburn Valley Fwy.
The driver finally pulled over near Arcadia without incident about 1.45pm.
Police said when breath tested, the man recorded a blood alcohol concentration on 0.219 — more than four times the legal limit.
The man also allegedly tested positive for methamphetamine and cannabis in a drug test.
A 55-year-old Reservoir man has been charged with dangerous driving while pursued by police, two counts of failing to stop on police direction, drink driving, drug driving, unlicensed driving and using an unregistered vehicle.
The man was bailed to appear in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court in September.
Anyone who saw the car driving erratically or who has dash cam footage of it is asked to phone First Constable Mitic at Shepparton Crime Investigation Unit on 5820 5777 or contact Crime Stoppers at crimestoppersvic.com.au or 1800 333 000.
